By periodically cleaning SB-Railing products and materials, two important goals are achieved. Maintenance is performed, which extends the lifespan and preserves the attractive appearance. This applies to both stainless steel and aluminium products.
Maintenance
No material is maintenance-free. Especially for outdoor applications, regular maintenance is necessary. If no or insufficient maintenance is performed, light contamination will turn into stubborn contamination, which can lead to corrosion. Corrosion, usually contact corrosion, affects the appearance and can eventually also affect the durability of the materials.
Causes
Industry, traffic and maritime influences are the main culprits of contamination, as a result of which regular maintenance must be carried out. The level of contamination depends on the intensity of these factors. Nature can also carry dirt, chlorides, and iron particles over long distances. On the other hand, nature helps with the cleaning process in the form of heavy rain showers. Besides the aforementioned external causes, material choice, surface treatment, or a design flaw can also play a role. Usually, these factors collectively determine the extent of contamination and thus the cleaning method and frequency.
Light contamination
Lightly contaminated metals can be cleaned with an alkaline agent and rinsed with water. For more stubborn dirt, a non-scratch polishing agent can be used. Abrasive or corrosive agents are not recommended. With the correct cleaning frequency, a simple treatment is sufficient.
Heavy contamination
Heavy or stubborn contamination (contact rust) can only be treated by specialists. Especially for stainless steel, many regular cleaning companies lack the expertise and the right products to remove it. Maintenance, Cleaning, and Protection Products from SB-Railing
In addition to the cleaning agents available in supermarkets or hardware stores, there are also products available that are specifically developed for aluminium and stainless steel. SB-Railing offers a number of excellent cleaning products in its range. For cleaning, we recommend SB-Cleaner (item no. 6740.01) and for affected surfaces SB-Super Cleaner (item no. 6740.02). Building owners often enter into cleaning contracts, and the products can be incorporated into the normal cleaning schedule. For the application, brushes, cloths, or rags can be used. Ensure that no scratches are made during rubbing by dirt, sand grains etc. Abrasive, grinding, and polishing agents should only be used by specialists.
